Philippians 4:4-9

4 Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.
5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.

Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. Philippians 4:6 (NRSV)

Knitting brings me a sense of peace and renewal. Even though I know only know one basic stitch, I ca knit any number of pieces, especially scarves. Though the particular pieces vary, the stitch I use doesn't. Once I have a number of stitches set on my needle, I can just knit away without having to think about what I am doing.

At our church, a group of women gets together once a month to knit. These woman taught me how to make a prayer shawl – which has quickly turned out to be my favorite piece to kit. As we knit the shawls, we pray for those who will receive them. When they wrap themselves in the prayer shawl, they wrap themselves in our prayer and care.

I give thanks for the person who began this prayer shawl ministry because it helps all of us to do something good for others. My knitting also takes me out of the worlds hectic pace and into a time of peace, where my strength is renewed by Gods Spirit working among us.

Prayer: Thank you Lord, for giving us peace as we work to help others. Thank you for the opportunities you give us to be a part of your work in their lives. Amen.
