Psalm 130:1-8
1 Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O LORD.
2 Lord, hear my voice: let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.
3 If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?
4 But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.
5 I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope.
6 My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning.
7 Let Israel hope in the LORD: for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption.
8 And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.

Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord; O Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy." Psalm 130:1-2 (NIV)

My husband and I own two breeder-chicken houses. As the hens were arriving, we had several equipment failures. When the feeder in on house broke, I began to cry.

The next day, as I was walking the slats (the part where the nest and feeders sit), the birds were squawking and flying everywhere. Although the noise was loud, I still heard the cry of one chicken. Looking behind me, I saw a hen stuck in the feeder, and I gently freed her.

That made me think about the day before when I felt so overwhelmed. Sometimes I think no one cares and that even God does not hear me. But my being able to hear the one chicken among 12,000 others reminded me that amid all the chaos and noise of this world, God hears my cries. And God cares and comes to wipe away my tears.

The psalmist reminds us that God's ears are attentive to our cries (Ps. 34:15). In our pain and frustration we often feel alone and lost, but God is always present to gently lift us up. God offers this mercy and peace to each of us, hearing our cries and responding to our needs.

Prayer: Father God, thank you for hearing our cries. Continue to give us your peace ans we face each challenge. Amen.

Prayer Focus of Day: Those who need Comfort

Thought for the Day: No matter how loud the noise around us, God always hears our cries.
