A POWERFUL
MESSAGE

READ:
1 Corinthians 1:18-25

The gospel of Christ...
is the power of God to
salvation for everyone
who believes.
__Romans 1:16

Bible teacher Lehman Strauss was brought to christ through the power of the Word when he was young. At his girlfriend's suggestion, he read Romans 3:23, 5:8, and 10:13. As he did, he was convicted of his sin. He wept and believed.

When his son Richard was 7 years old, he asked his father how to be saved. Lehman used the same verses that his girlfriend (who was now his wife) had used years earlier. His son believed too, and eventually became a pastor.

God's Word has tremendous power! The first recorded time God spoke, He created light (Gen. 1:3). He spoke a promise to Abraham (17:15-19) and enabled his 90-year-old wife Sarah to bear a child (21:1-2). God still speaks with power today, and all who hear and believe the gospel are saved (Rom. 1:16).

Yes, the message of christ and His saving work on the cross can change the direction of a person's life. It has the power to reach the heart of that person you love and have prayed for many times.

So don't give up in your witness. Be consistent in your daily walk. Keep praying and sharing the gospel with others. It's a powerful message! __Dave Egner

************Today's Bible Reading __ 1 Corinthians 1:18-25*********

18 For the message of the
cross is foolishness to those
who are perishing, but to us
who are being saved it is
the power of God. 19 For it
is written:

"I will destroy the wisdom
of the wise, and bring to
nothing the understanding
of the prudent."

20 Where is the wise?
Where is the scribe? Where
is the disputer of this age?
Has not God made foolish
the wisdom of this world?

21 For since, in the wisdom
of God, the world through
wisdom did not know God,
it pleased God through the
foolishness of the message
preached to save those who
believe. 22 For Jews request
a sign, and Greeks seek
after wisdom; 23 but we
preach Christ crucified, to
the Jews a stumbling block
and to he Greeks
foolishness, 24 but to those
who are called, both Jews
and Greeks, Christ the
power of God and the
wisdom of God. 25 Because
the foolishness of God is
wiser than men, and the
weakness of God is stronger
than men.

The Corinthian church was started by Paul during his second
missionary journey (AD 50, Acts 18:1-18). After staying for another
18 months (v.11), Paul left Apollos to continue the work (Acts
18:27-19:1; 1 Cor. 3:6). Peter may have been in Corinth too
(1 Cor. 1:12). Four years later (AD 56), while in Ephesus on his third
missionary journey, Paul received two disturbing reports (1 Cor.
1:10-11; 11:18-22) of divisions, disorders, difficulties, and denial
of the resurrection in the church. Paul wrote this letter to address
these problems. __SIM KAY TEE
