A TIME TO
REMEMBER

A few years ago, members of my family got together at a restaurant to celebrate the 100th birthday of my grandmother, Hazel Dierking.

But Grandma wasn't there. She had already been in heaven for 16 years. Yet we were so grateful for her influence on us that we wanted to celebrate her life. Using her pink cups and saucers, we drank tea together and reminisced about her sweetness, wisdom, and quirky sense of humor. We remembered her.

When more than one of our five senses is involved in an experience, something stirs in our memory. Perhaps Jesus, knowing how prone we are to forget, chose a method that would involve many of our senses to help us remember His sacrifice. It was at a meal__a time of eating and drinking__that Jesus said to His followers, "Do this in remembrance of Me" (1 Cor. 11:24).

When we take part in the Lord's Supper, we remember the love and sacrifice of Jesus in a tangible way. Communion is much more than a ritual. Each moment should be experienced just as if you were seated around the table with the disciples as jesus spoke.

With hearts overflowing with gratitude, we celebrate the Lord's Supper as a time to remember. __Cindy Hess Kasper

Lord Jesus on the same
night in which He was
betrayed took bread; 24 and
when He had given thanks,
He broke it and said, "Take,
eat; this is My body which
is broken for you; do this in
remembrance of Me."

25 In the same manner He
also took the cup after
supper, saying, "This
cup is the new covenant
in My blood. This do, as
often as you drink it, in
remembrance of Me."

26 For as often as you eat
this bread and drink this
cup, you proclaim the
Lord's death till He comes.

Scholars believe that this passage is the earliest record of the
practice of the Lord's Supper in the church. The Lord's Supper
was instituted and first celebrated by Jesus in connection with the
Passover meal (Matt. 26:17-30; Mark 14:12-26; Luke 22:7-20) on the
night before He was crucified on the cross. It is a commemorative
feast that includes: 1. A historical remembrance of what Christ did
on the cross (1 Cor. 11:24-25). 2. An eschatological (the theology
of last things) anticipation of His coming back again (v.26). 3. An
internal examinatin of how we ought to live (vv.27-28). __SKT

Oh Yes, remembering Him -- our blessed Jesus and what He did for us and continues to do for us. Remembering the Love that was bestowed upon us through His death and resurrection. He Lives, He Lives, He lives.
