~ Doing the Word ~

James 1:19-25
19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
Blessed… are those who hear the word of God and obey it. Luke 11:28 (NIV)
Discussing appropriate television viewing with her six-year-old daughter, my daughter asked, “Laura, can you think of one program that might not be good for you to watch?”
Immediately, Laura spouted off the name of a less-than-wholesome TV show adding, in childlike innocence, “I don’t think God wants me to watch that program.”
Later in the day, my daughter was disappointed to find Laura curled up on the couch watching the show she had earlier said was inappropriate. “Oh Mommy, don’t worry,” Laura announced. “It’s OK. God changed his mind.”
Like my granddaughter, I sometimes act as if God’s mind changes according to my whims. I have heard God challenge me through scripture or a sermon, asking me to make changes in my life, to give of my time and money, or to drop an unhealthy habit. Inspired at first, I respond positively, resolving to be a doer. But then I begin to waver, thinking how difficult it will be to embrace what I have heard. Before long, I make excuses: “I’ve interpreted that scripture wrongly” or “I’m not sure what God meant.”
James 1:19-25 offers advice when we’re tempted to ignore God’s word. James reminds us that heedlessness leads to self-deception, but embracing God’s word and following its guidance ensures blessings.
Prayer: Dear God, help us to be doers of your word and not hearers only. Amen
Prayer Focus of Day: For strength to obey God’s word
Thought for the Day: Living by the Bible’s guidance puts us on the way of blessedness

I have done the same thing before, 
i think we all have as Christians. Isn't God wonderful that He put this warning in His word to open our eyes?
