2 Peter 1: 5-11
5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

The psalmist wrote, “When I said, ‘My foot is slipping,’ your love, O Lord supported me.” Psalm 94:18 (NIV)

Our first snow of the year fell yesterday and today sleet compounds our problems in driving and walking. The snow and ice are formidable obstacles in getting to the birdbaths and feeders in our yard. Reaching them requires caution even for those who are young and agile – and more so for the rest of us.

I grew up in snow country, and I never thought I would forteg how to maneuver safely in wintry weather. But after moving to where winters are mild, I soon forgot because living here doesn’t provide regular practice.

Unfortunately, neither does it take long to forget other important things. During my younger years, my roots were sunk deeply into the religious community. Once I became an adult, it didn’t take me long to forsake that sure spiritual footing for the shifting sands of secular pleasures. Soon this way of life had me in chains.

It took me a long while to return to God. But when I did, I found all that I had forsaken – and more. I am grateful that god’s love is sure in every season for each one of us, no matter how much we have forgotten or how far we have strayed.

Prayer:Dear heavenly Father, help us to know that wherever we are and whatever we do, you care more for us than we can care for ourselves. Amen

Prayer Focus of Day: Someone who has turned from God
Thought for the Day: The ground of God’s love is sure footing.
