~ God Understands ~

Read John 11:17-44 http://www.christianityoasis.com/bible/ ... ld_lookup=

"[God] will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain. Revelation 21:4 (NIV)

"A few years ago I was part of a discussion about favorite Bible verses. A co-worker said that her favorite Bible verse was John 11:35. I did not know the verse from memory. When I had a chance to look it up, I was surprised to find which one it was. It's the shortest verse in the Bible. In fact, it's just two words: "Jesus wept."

When I asked my friend why she had picked that particular verse, she told me that this verse shows her the human side of Jesus. I knew that she had encountered much sorrow in her life. She said that there were times in life when she needed to cry, and she knows that Jesus could related to her tears because he himself cried. To her, Jesus was never more human that when he was in pain. Whenever she cries, she remembers that while Jesus also endured tears and pain, through him, we believers will all be raised to glory one day.

My co-worker's words offered me a new perspective. We can take heart from knowing that God can related to our pain and comfort us, but also from knowing that a day is coming when there will be no pain and no suffering.

Prayer: O God, thank you fro being with us when we suffer and for your gift of eternal life through Christ. Amen.

Prayer Focus of Day: Those who have cried today

Thought for the Day: When we cry, God shares our tears and our pain.
