Matt: 13:3 Part 5, The Baptism of the Holy Spirit

Hosted by Saint 701 ... This forum is for the purpose of examining the subject of Grace and its great place in God's work in the body of Christ Jesus of which we are a part. "The Book of Romans" was chosen for the title since that book is so rich in Grace to us, but in no way is this forum limited in examining Grace to only the "Book of Romans."

Matt: 13:3 Part 5, The Baptism of the Holy Spirit

Hello Christianity Oasis, All...
*AngelYellow*
Blessings!

Home from the Navy during the February of 1979 I was reading a book by Watchman Nee when I came across a prayer of his that offered the hope of becoming a born again Christian. Essentially the prayer was this. Picture Jesus on the Cross. Kneel before Him there and ask to be baptized into His life, death, and resurrection. Believe me, I prayed that prayer with all of my heart, mind, soul, and strength! At that time in my life, I, as yet, had not seen old things pass away and all things become new. I was about to.

I felt light enter my body and spread throughout. The next day I woke up to a new life...and yet, after several weeks I still felt like something was missing. I had been watching the 700 Club program and learned they had a phone counseling center in St. Louis. I decided to call and ask whoever I talked with there if they knew the answer to my question of is there something missing? A sweet, angelic voice answered my call. I explained my situation to her and received an emphatic, yes!

"Have you received the baptism of the Holy Spirit?" She asked.

Having had the experience of light entering my body and old things passing away and all things becoming new, I assured her that "yes," I had been baptized in the Holy Spirit. But, I was about to learn the truth of what she expected, that being that no I had not.

"Well, ok," she said after I assured her that I had been baptized in the Holy Spirit, then asked, "Do you speak in tongues?"

"No," I answered her.

"Well, everyone I pray with to speak in tongues speaks in tongues within an hour," she said matter of factly.

I then consented for her to pray with me to speak in tongues. Afterward, nothing happening after 45 minutes, I called her back and expressed my concern.

"Mmm," she said. "Do you have any occult books in the house?"

I rummaged around in my bookcase and found one book that looked suspicious. I told her about it.

She said, "Get rid of that book and you will speak in tongues."

I took the book out the back of the house and tossed it in the trash can. Still..., nothing happened..., and then I found myself saying, "I will speak in tongues. I will speak in tongues. I will speak in tongues." I spoke it ever more strongly! "I will speak in tongues. I will speak in tongues." I spoke it until I literally felt like I was going to burst! Then, finally, with an argh, my knees buckled, then hit the floor..., and at that instant waves and waves and waves of what seemed like warm honey water poured over me, over and over and over..., tears flooded my face, and beautiful songs of praise left my mouth in the most beautiful language I had ever heard and to the praise of His Glory went on and on and on.

That was my baptism in the Holy Spirit.
