This forum is for those souls 18 years and older who are dealing with some type of addictive behavior whether it be from alcohol, drugs, overeating, fear, worry, sex, etc. Only with help and guidance from God can we ever hope to overcome these addictions. What is impossible for us to do IS POSSIBLE with God. Friends and family of those stricken with addictions are welcome to share as this problem affects more than just the soul entangled in its web.

Behaviors Common to the abused

Postby Dora » Mon Jun 01, 2009 5:19 am

When I read this list I saw myself in way to many of them. Helped me to see that God isn't done with me yet is he. Ok so I continue counseling.
Thought I'd share with you all. We can see why we do some of the things we do.

Behaviors common to the abused.

Substance Abuse - alcohol - drugs
Obsession with money - excessive spending - hoarding
Food disorder - bulimia - anorexia
Rage - excessive saddness - fear - excessive excitement - religious righteousness (working to make self pure) - always smiling (trying to hide or deny situation).
Being detailed oriented
Worry
non-stop talking
lustful thoughts
unsettled mind
Activitiy Obsession - work, sports, reading, gambling, exercise, tv viewing

Being controlling of other people
Allowing other people to control you.
Becoming abusive.
Putting self in situation to be mistreated.
keeping busy
Occupies mind by taking care of others or pets.

If you see yourself in some of these you may wonder where to go for healing.
Don't fret because Christianity Oasis has the answer.
The counseling here is awesome and free.

Not sure about you but I think I can fit into many of those areas. Can be kind of scary to see yourself in need of help. I know God is going to finish the good work he started in me and he will you as well. :) I have complete faith in that.
*angel7* Sorrow looks back, Worry looks around, But faith looks up! Live simply, love generously, care deeply, speak kindly and trust in our Creator who loves us.

amen pine

its easy to look at the list and point out somebody u know who falls into the catagories but it takes a courageous person to look within themselves with the discernment of the Holy Spirit and to examine ourselves and ask God for the guidance and wisdom we need to correct the things that need to be corrected for us to live a life pleasing to Him.

At night i ask God to examine my heart and bring forth the things that i need to so i can live for Him, and it is so hard to do that sometimes. But i find when i look within it may hurt , but He is my ultimate healer and my strength and i am a better person in the morning when i heed to His voice and listen to His counsel.

Even with u listing those things i see alot He still needs to work on me too pine *Whistle*

Than k you ladies for your openness, it's through ones like you that can open to the door to help others come to terms with their abuse...and begin the journey of healing...sometimes that's all it takes to get others to be brave enough to open up too, and to anyone who needs it..we are here for you ..just say the word....I love to see people set free ...in Jesus..give Him a chance..He is standing at the door of you life, knocking, He is waiting for you to open that door, and He will come in and love you and heal you... :)
love ya's all

I was never physically abused but I was emotionally and spiritually abused. It seemed like everytime I got on the right path and over a mountain with God my ex would bring me right back down. I finally realized God did not see us as married even though we lived together and have kids. I am now a single mom who has accepted God's forgiveness for my mistakes and moved on. Everytime he(my ex) would put me or God down I would remember Psalm 121 and Isiah 43:18-21. God truly is close to the brokenhearted Seek His will first and everything else will fall into place.Remember how much He loves us and He doesnt want us to be abused or troubled. "In this world you will have trials and tribulations. But take heart! I have overcome this world".

My resolution for today, next month, and years to come is to be further from the world and closer to the Word.
