What is the Final Judgment of God?

When is the Great White Throne Judgment?

Most everyone has heard of the term "Judgment Day" before which is the final judgment. Most of us picture in our minds, standing before God with a big white wall that displays every sin we ever committed in our lives. Well, nobody knows if that's exactly what it will be like or not, but let's see what the Bible says about what we can expect at the Great White Throne Judgment. However, before we do ... Here is something very important to remember. Jesus spoke these unforgettable words:

Matthew 7:1

Judge not, that ye be not judged.

Paul talks about this too ... That we all sin, so to judge another, is just like convicting ourselves.

Romans 2:1-11

1 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.
2 But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to Truth against them which commit such things.
3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
4 Or despisest thou the riches of His goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:
8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the Truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,
9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
10 But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:
11 For there is no respect of persons with God.

Jesus said:

Matthew 12:36-37

36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

The Judgment of God Debate
When is the Great White Throne Judgment Warning

The Bible shares some words of admonishment from Peter about the Final Judgment.

2 Peter 2:9-22

9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:
10 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.
11 Whereas Angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord.
12 But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;
13 And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;
14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:
15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;
16 But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet.
17 These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.
18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.
19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.
20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.
21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the Holy commandment delivered unto them.
22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

Who is in the Judgment of God?
The Final Judgment meaning

Now, that we have that matter understood, let's look into the Great White Throne Judgment in the Book of Revelation:

The Final Judgment of God

Revelation 20:11-15

11 And I saw a great white throne, and Him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the Heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the Book of Life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Let's take the Final Judgment of God verses, one at a time and discuss each one as to get a better idea of how things will happen, when the Great White Throne Judgment day arrives.

Revelation 20:11

And I saw a Great White Throne, and Him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the Heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.

The Judgment of God Purpose
The Great White Throne Judgment Fear

It's a little hard to imagine, but at the time of the final Judgment of God, the earth and the Heaven and that which God created all the way back in Genesis, just flee away ... They are no longer needed. The Apostle Peter also compares the end to be as it was when the earth was destroyed by the Great Flood. Only this time, it awaits destruction by fire on the Final Judgment of God:

2 Peter 3:7

But the Heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

The next verse we will look at in the Great White Throne Judgment study reveals that it is time for God to judge the people:

Revelation 20:12

And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the Book of Life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

If one's name is not written in the Book of Life ... They are going to the Lake of Fire forever.

Lost soul in the lake of fire

When is the Great White Throne Judgment? This is the Final Judgment of God which occurs immediately after the 1000 year Millennium. The judgment of God happens due to the choices made even after God sacrificed His own Son to give them a chance at eternal life.

John 3:16-17

16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.

Our loving Father did all He could to save these souls. But free will was a must, lest we be but puppets. They made their choice. However, be of good cheer for those who did make the right choice of believing and following Jesus are "Heavenly" rewarded:

Revelation 3:5

He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before His Angels.

Revelation 13:8

And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him [the beast], whose names are not written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

In the next Judgment of God verse ... The rest of the dead souls were brought up out of hell.

Revelation 20:13

And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

So, the souls of the unbelievers in hell are brought before God to be judged at the Great White Throne Judgment for the Final Judgment of God. Then hell itself is cast into the lake of fire.

Revelation 20:14

And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

The first death is the death of the body or the flesh.

The second death is at the Great White Throne Judgment, for those who don't overcome.

The Final Judgment of God is Eternal

You may have never thought that something that isn't in our physical realm could be thrown into the lake of fire, but at the Great White Throne Judgment, God tosses death and hell in there ... That is to say that there will be no more death ... Or hell after that, because those who have overcome will have eternal life at the Final Judgment of God.

Revelation 20:15

And whosoever was not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.

Anyone whose name isn't in the Book of Life, goes to the lake of fire.

Don't be mistaken ... Now, just because these are souls that are going there, just like death and hell are not tangible things, neither is a soul ... But, if you're under the impression that once a soul goes to the lake of fire, it is burned up and all the pain and agony ends ...

You are mistaken, because the Bible clearly states that:

Revelation 14:9-11

9 And the third Angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,
10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of His indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the Holy Angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:
11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

And:

Revelation 20:10

And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

The Great White Throne Judgment Curse
The Final Judgment of God Blessing

Remember that the souls that end up in the Lake of Fire are tormented day and night forever. On the other hand ... Those who are written in the Book of Life ... Will (according to the Bible) live in a place so Son-derful that we can't even imagine it ... Forever.

Isaiah 64:4

For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what He hath prepared for him that waiteth for Him.

1 Corinthians 2:9

But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him.

The Apostle John tells us that if we live in the Love of Christ and follow His path, that we can have confidence at time of the Judgment of God:

1 John 4:17

Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as He is, so are we in this world.

The prophet Daniel also wrote of his vision of the Great White Throne Judgment:

Daniel 7:9-14

9 I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of His head like the pure wool: His throne was like the fiery flame, and His wheels as burning fire.
10 A fiery stream issued and came forth from before Him: thousand thousands ministered unto Him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him: the judgment was set, and the Books were opened.
11 I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake: I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame.
12 As concerning the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away: yet their lives were prolonged for a season and time.
13 I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of Heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought Him near before Him.
14 And there was given Him dominion, and glory, and a Kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve Him: His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and His Kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

As we sojourn into our ... When is the Great White Throne Judgment investigation, you still may be worried about that "Big White Wall" because of some poor choices in your past. If that is they case dear soul, do not forget about God's Grace.

Love is also something that we should never neglect, because it may also be part of our Saving Grace.

1 Peter 4:8

And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.

Proverbs 10:12

Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.

And above all:

John 3:16-17

16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.

Alleluia!

Though the world is in quite a mess, and we as Christians await the Day of the Lord with anticipation, because of our longing to be with Jesus, we are not to hope for it to get here.

The Bible says:

Amos 5:18-20

18 Woe unto you that desire the day of the Lord! to what end is it for you? the Day of the Lord is darkness, and not light.
19 As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.
20 Shall not the Day of the Lord be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?

The Judgment of God Fear
The Great White Throne Judgment Hope

We are not to look forward to such a day where so many will be sentenced to eternal suffering.

The Book of Life is opened to see who will enter Heaven and who will go to the Lake of Fire to be tormented forever. Those who were not written in the Book of Life are thrown into the Lake of Fire.

Those who are written in the Book of Life, will live forever.

Then, God will create a New Heaven and New Earth, for the present Heaven and Earth are passed away and there is no more sea.

Ponder on this interesting ideology ... Heaven and Earth were created in the beginning:

Genesis 1:1-2

1 In the beginning God created the Heaven and the earth.
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

It is also written that after the Great White Throne Judgment, God will make the earth void again:

Jeremiah 4:22-27

22 For my people is foolish, they have not known me; they are sottish children, and they have none understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.
23 I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the Heavens, and they had no light.
24 I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly.
25 I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the Heavens were fled.
26 I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the Lord, and by His fierce anger.
27 For thus hath the Lord said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end.

The Judgment of God is Over
The Great White Throne Judgment Has Ended

And then after the Final Judgment of God, our Heavenly Father will create a New Heaven and New Earth, just as He did in the Book of Genesis.

Isaiah 65:17

For, behold, I create New Heavens and a New Earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

Just as He has said that He would after the Great White Throne Judgment.

Revelation 21:1

And I saw a New Heaven and a New Earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

It is obvious that the earth somehow becomes without form and void from something and God said He was going to do so, but that He would not make a full end and He said that He would make a New Heaven and New Earth.

Could this mean renewed?

Question ... What if God regenerates the Earth every so often as to cleanse it as these Scriptures suggest ...

This method of cleansing heaven and earth appears to happen every 7000 years.

Revelation, Chapter 21-22 reveals what it will be like. I will let the Bible speak for itself because nobody could explain it as well as it is described there.

Revelation, Chapter 21

1 And I saw a New Heaven and a New Earth: for the first Heaven and the first Earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
2 And I John saw the Holy City, New Jerusalem, coming down from God out of Heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
3 And I heard a great voice out of Heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be with them, and be their God.
4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
5 And He that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And He said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
6 And He said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
9 And there came unto me one of the seven Angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife.
10 And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the Holy Jerusalem, descending out of Heaven from God,
11 Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;
12 And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve Angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:
13 On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates.
14 And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
15 And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof.
16 And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.
17 And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the Angel.
18 And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.
19 And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald;
20 The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolyte; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst.
21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls: every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.
22 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the Temple of it.
23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
24 And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.
25 And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.
26 And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it.
27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.

Revelation, Chapter 22

1 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
2 In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the Tree of Life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
3 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and His servants shall serve Him:
4 And they shall see His face; and His name shall be in their foreheads.
5 And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.
6 And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the Holy prophets sent His Angel to shew unto His servants the things which must shortly be done.
7 Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.

God will then dwell with mankind ... Revelation 21:3

There shall be no more tears, death, sorrow or pain ... Revelation 21:4

He that overcomes, shall inherit all things and become a child of God ... Revelation 21:7

The New Jerusalem will be beautiful ... Revelation 21:10-22

The city will not need the sun or moon, for God is the light ... Revelation 21:23

A river of life flows from God's throne through the land and the Tree of Life will bare 12 manners of fruit, and the leaves from the tree will be used for healing ... Revelation 22:1-2

There will be no night time nor darkness ... Revelation 22:5

So you see it is not over when the End Times are over. It is not over when the Millennium begins. Many like to create their own view of what is going to happen in some vain attempt to limit God's Grace to their limited imagination of Unconditional Love.

God has already laid out His plan. From the beginning to the Great White Throne Judgment which we now truly understand completely to be the Final Judgment of God and the answer to the question, when is the Great White Throne Judgment. It is after the Millennium.

God has great plans for those who hold on to the Heavenly hope.
